Hood River

Snow in the winter, wildflowers and fruit blossoms in the spring, endless outdoor adventures in the summer, and amazing hiking and mountain biking in the fall…there are endless opportunities for fun in Hood River.   Outdoor enthusiasts have been flocking to Hood River in recent years and have brought with them an incredible culture that appreciates health, balance and joy.

Hood River is a spectacularly scenic 45-minute drive east of Portland Airport and an easy 3-4 hour drive from Seattle.    Located where the West Fork of the Hood River enters the Columbia River gorge, Hood River is one of the most beautiful and unique geographical locations in the world.   The area is unique because Hood River is located in the middle of the Cascade Mountain Range at sea level (it is nestled in the spectacular Columbia River Gorge).  Hood River sees more sun in the summer and snow in the winter than Portland and Seattle, and is much closer to the arid Eastern Washington/Oregon weather range.

Hood River is a mecca for outdoor recreation.  The grand Columbia River, nearby Mount Hood -- the highest point in Oregon, and the Mount Hood National Forest, offer plenty of opportunities for hiking, biking, skiing, and camping. The area has become a world-renowned hotbed for kiteboarding and windsurfing as local atmospherics make for near-perfect conditions.   River rafting, whitewater kayaking, rock climbing and year-round skiing bring a diverse group of athletes to the area, as well.

In addition to outdoor recreation, Hood River has amazing restaurants, music and more!  You can take several scenic driving loops around Mount Hood and through the orchards of the Hood River Valley. You can also hop on the Mount Hood railroad for a four-hour scenic train ride.   There are many Bed & Breakfasts and renowned Oregon wineries in the area.  Maryhill’s Stonehedge, historic museums and, of particular interest this year, the Lewis and Clark Trail are other interests along the Gorge.
